The 55-megawatt (MW) wind project, comprised of nine American-made turbines, is fully contracted under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Maryland-based Constellation to deliver wind power to the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to help power Maryland in the race to meet skyrocketing demand for affordable and reliable energy in the region,\u201d <strong>said Craig Cornelius, Chief Executive Officer of Clearway<\/strong>. \u201cThe Dan\u2019s Mountain wind farm generates enough energy to serve thousands of homes and businesses with reliable, US-made clean power. We are grateful to Constellation for their long-term partnership and to the Allegany County community for their trust in Clearway to steward this project and its local benefits for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dan\u2019s Mountain Wind is a win for Maryland and a prime example of our state\u2019s leadership in the new energy economy,&#8221; <strong>said Governor Wes Moore<\/strong>. &#8220;The project\u2019s $180 million investment in Allegany County not only created more than 100 union jobs but also transformed former coal-mining land into a powerful new source of renewable energy. By increasing our state&#8217;s wind-powered generation by 30%, we take a significant step forward in meeting our climate goals while ensuring Maryland families and businesses have access to reliable, clean power for years to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the nation\u2019s largest producer of clean energy, the Dan\u2019s Mountain wind project aligns with Constellation\u2019s goal to support the development of new carbon-free generation,\u201d <strong>said Jim McHugh, Chief Commercial Officer, Constellation<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re pleased this new clean capacity will help our customers deliver on their sustainability and emissions reduction goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dan\u2019s Mountain uses American-made GE turbines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Hardy, Global Chief Commercial Officer<\/strong>, GE Vernova Wind, said, \u201cAs the leading supplier of onshore wind turbines in the US, we have leveraged our robust US manufacturing operations and supply chain to support the Dan&#8217;s Mountain wind farm. This project is another example of how wind power can support the country\u2019s growing energy needs, while creating U.S. jobs and bolstering energy security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>GE Vernova previously announced plans to invest $600 million and create 1,500 new jobs at its facilities across the US, including nearly $100 million in its wind manufacturing facilities in Pensacola, FL, Schenectady, NY, and Grand Forks, ND, and its remanufacturing facilities in Amarillo, TX.<\/p>\n<p>Dan\u2019s Mountain will generate enough reliable, clean energy to power 24,400 homes annually. Wind power has become increasingly valuable in Maryland as the regional PJM grid has shifted toward higher winter demand, and wind energy is particularly strong during this season.<\/p>\n<p>Situated on 2,800 acres of privately owned land and former coal strip mining land, Dan\u2019s Mountain repurposes unused land for domestic energy production.<\/p>\n<p>This project represents a $180 million investment in Allegany County, and the wind farm will contribute $30 million in property taxes, supporting local schools, hospitals, and other public infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Clearway also launched Dan\u2019s Mountain&#8217;s annual $10,000 community benefit program, which to date has contributed to local organizations that include Allegany College of Maryland \u2013 Western Maryland Works, Egle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Robotics and Engineering in Allegany County Together (REACT), Western Maryland Health System Foundation\u2019s Dialysis Patient Assistance Fund, and Sterling Care Frostburg Village.
